The Tanta Flax and Oil Company workers strike has entered its 78th day, as workers launched today an independent strike fund, collecting one pound from every striker, to finance the ongoing industrial action, after the corrupt, state-backed General Union of Textile Workers stopped paying the strikers’ salaries ordering the suspension of their strike.
The workers have already tore down the banners put up by the General Union at the beginning of the strike, that declared support for Hussein Megawer, Said el-Gohary and the General Federation of Trade Union cronies. Moreover, men and women strikers shouted slurs against the Federation, and stepped on the banners with their feet.
