Public Transportation workers on STRIKE!

Public Transportation strikers demand impeaching their state-backed union officials

Just came back from visiting the public transportation strikers in Nasr City’s El-Mostaqbal Garage, where the total labor force (700 bus drivers, collectors, mechanics) are striking, joined by thousands of their colleagues across Greater Cairo. Initial reports: 14 Garages in Cairo and Giza are striking, but 2 in Giza are not (Athar el-Nabbi and Fom el-Khaleeg).

The workers in Nasr City have started collecting signatures (see pic above) demanding the impeachment of the state-backed General Union of Transportation Workers’ local officials, threatening to establish independent union.

There are already rumors circulating the govt will submit to the strikers’ demands today.

thank you for your work; I just saw you speaking on Riz Khan’s show (on Al Jazeera) regarding “Mubarak & Son’s” visit to the Imperial capital (Washington D.C.). You did a great job, and the poor Michele Dunne, a former staffer at the US Embassy in Cairo, was at a loss for words after some of your comments. Excellent to watch!

    best regards –
peace and justice from BK in Hong Kong
