I received the following message from a journalist friend in Cairo, about the dictator’s health…
That man is looking worse every passing day. Al-Badeel had a close up of him that is rarely seen… he’s all wrinkled and pock marked and his hands are covered with liver spots… which is normal for an 80 year old man. Alternatively, after he met Blair and D’Alema two days ago, the newspapers on Wednesday carried pictures of him that were heavily airbrushed, to the point where his color was unnatural, and there was not a single wrinkle or sign of aging on his face.
Who is this guy kidding?
Incidentally, I was looking as some footage we took of him… I think it’s probably nothing, but at first the video people thought there was something funny about the way he kept his left hand curled up in his lap, rarely moving it except to sort of clench it compulsively every once in a while. Probably nothing though.
Nazif yesterday told people at Euromoney that investors are exaggering their concern over political succession because the president is in good health, so there’s no immediate concern. What hubris! As though he were not a mere mortal who could die at any given minute.
Hide in your palaces and behind your soldiers, Mubarak. Death will find you yet.
