Murad Vs. Bloggers

The Administrative Court decided Tuesday afternoon to transfer the lawsuit to block 21 blogs and websites that “harm Egypt’s national interests and defame Hosni Mubarak” to the Sixth District Court, to be looked into sometime in April.

The court session ended in a circus, with judge Abdel Fattah Murad who filed the lawsuit requesting the blocking, assaulted blogger Rami Siyam as he was video-recording the judge leaving the court room.

The judge, who showed up today in the company of at least three bodyguards, failed to take the mobile phone from Rami, who chased him with his mobile as the judge was leaving the building.

Assiut sit-in against Mubarak’s amendments

Kefaya activists mobilized around 300 protesters yesterday in Assiut University’s faculty of law, where they staged a sit-in for two hours, protesting Mubarak’s dictatorial constitutional amendments.

Judges reject Mubarak’s referendum

Egypt’s judges have vowed to boycott the supervision of future polls after rejecting the results of a referendum that approved a series of changes to the constitution.
“The judges wash their hands off the referendum results,” Ahmad Sabr, a spokesman for the body that represents the country’s judges, said on Tuesday.
“We will no longer be a fig leaf to cover something shameful.”
The changes, which will help the government exclude religious parties from the political system, were backed by 75.9 per cent of people who voted but human rights groups estimated that turnout was less than 10 per cent.
The Egyptian justice ministry said 27.1 per cent of registered voters took part.
