15 May: Nakba Commemoration at Lawyers’ Syndicate
A message from journalist Serene Assir…
On 15 May 2008, to mark the 60th commemoration of the Nakba, the Lawyers’ Syndicate in Cairo will be holding exhibitions and showing film presentations throughout the morning – as I understand, up until 6pm.
From then onwards, from around 6pm until 10 pm, events will be held at the Press Syndicate, including music, poetry and dabka by the AUC’s Nadi Al-Quds.
Both the Press Syndicate and the Lawyers’ Syndicate are located on Abdel-Khaleq Tharwat Street. It runs between Talaat Harb Street and Ramses Street, and is about 5 minutes walk from Talaat Harb Square.
Updates on the Mahalla detainees
I received the following message from a Socialist activist in Cairo:
.العمال الثلاثة بدأوا إضرابا عن الطعام منذ الاحد الماضى حالة كريم تدهورت أمس الأثنين ..احتجاجا على الافراج عن جميع المعتقلين السياسيين سواهم
The three labor activists (Kamal el-Fayoumi, Kareem el-Beheiri and Tarek Amin) started a hunger strike Sunday, to demand their release.
Kareem’s health condition has deteriorated on Monday. I still don’t have more details. General Habib el-Adly, Mubarak’s Torturer-In-Chief has ordered the release of all political detainees in Bourg el-Arab Prison, except for our three comrades.
