911 Egyptian style

This audio file records an emergency phone call from a citizen to the Police, to report on “a big street fight in the neighborhood.”

The call is received by an answering machine that plays soft music, interrupted twice by a recorded message of “Sorry, all available officials are dealing with busy with other incoming calls. You will be attended to shortly.”

In the background, you can hear the noise of the street fight, and screams.

Finally after 2 minutes and 11 seconds some police official answers the call:
“There is a big street fight…” reports the caller.
“Thanks, Thanks,” interrupts the police officer.
“Thanks about what?” asks the caller in shock.

The police hangs up the phone.

Emad Muhammad Ali, victim of police sexual abuse who was identified last week by Al-Fagr, was interviewed on Al-Qahira Al-Youm program.

Emad speaks in details about the torture he went through in Bulaq al-Dakrour Police Station, where agents took turns in whipping him, and then inserted an umbrella’s wooden stick in his anal opening, while sadistically asking him to repeat that he “is a fag” and there “is not a single man in Bulaq al-Dakrour” area. As the torture continued, police corporals and and an officer were recording the abuse on a mobile phone, telling Emad they would distribute it among “everyone” to scandalize him and to terrorize the men in Bulaq into submission to police rule.

Solidarity stand with Egyptian Bahaai’s

Posted on 14/12/200617/01/2021 By 3arabawy

Activists are holding a stand in front of the State Council in Dokki, Saturday 16 December, 10am, in solidarity with Egypt’s Bahaai minority, who are suffering state discrimination against them, that includes refusing to issue any official documents to them, since Mubarak’s “secular” government requires the religion of the citizen to be mentioned on his/her ID cards. However, the Interior Ministry’s computer can only process three entries: Muslim, Christian, Jew.

Baha’is cannot issue birth and death certificates, ID cards, or any govt document, since the interior ministry does not recognize they exist.

For background on the subject, check EIPR’s statement.
