‘Mahalla will wake up to an earthquake in the morning’
I was just on the phone with one of the Ghazl el-Mahalla December 2006 strike leaders, who’s involved in the current fight against the state owned management over the annual profit shares.
The managemen hasn’t replied back with any official statements yet and refuses negotiations. “Mahalla will wake up to an earthquake in the morning,” he firmly said. “We are mobilizing for industrial action at 7am.”
My heart and thoughts go out to the Mahalla workers.
Mahalla under police siege
Ghazl el-Mahalla activist and blogger Kareem el-Beheiri is reporting that Mubarak’s police troops have deployed around the factory, and security presence in the city has been stepped up.
Kareem is also reporting there’s solidarity with the workers in the factory coming from Tanta University students, as well as a militant mood among the town citizens. Everyone is anxious, and waiting to see if a strike will break out on Sunday morning or not.
