El-Adly Videogate: Ihab on the run

Ihab Magdi Farouk, the victim of Imbaba Police brutality video is still on the run, fearing for his safety after he went public with the details of his torture in an interview with Al-Masry Al-Youm on Thursday, only to have his house raided and family detained.

Ihab made a phone call yesterday to journalist Ali Zalat of Al-Masry Al-Youm, who broke the exclusive the report about Ihab’s identity, and told him he would stay on the run till he’s provided with legal aid.

Ghazl Shebeen el-Kom textile strike continues

The workers at Ghazl Shebeen el-Kom Textile factory are continuing their strike and sit-in for the third day on the row. Minister of Labor Aisha Abdel Hadi, coming under pressure, has come out yesterday with a statement promising to look into the workers demands, but called for ending the strike immediately. The minister’s statement was rejected by the strikers.

Bahraini rights activist denied entry to Egypt

I received the following statement from HRINFO:

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (HRinfo) and Arab Program for Human Rights Activists (APHRA) condemn the prevention of Muhammad Al-Maskati, human rights activist and Director of Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights (BYSHR) from entering Egypt today. The Cairo Airport Security Service held Al-Maskati in custody for more than 12 hours at the airport before he was deported back to Bahrain.
