Court acquits policemen of #Jan28 murder charges

The notorious former director of security in Beheira, General Magdi Abu Qamar, whose troops massacred protesters on the Friday of Anger, 28 January 2011, has been acquitted of all murder charges, together with a number of policemen.

Temporary workers at the agriculture ministry in Beheira held a protest today in front of the ministerial cabinet headquarters in downtown Cairo, demanding contracts and a minimum wage.

Police General Magdi Abu Qamar, Beheira’s security director during the uprising, whose troops were involved in the murder of protesters, has been promoted, according to the Nadim Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence.

The infamous SS officer Mohannad Abul Einein (seen above shooting at Damanhour protesters during the uprising) is still a free man too. And I’m trying to confirm whether he’s part of the newly founded National Security Sector.

The families of Al-Ab’adiya (Damanhour) prisoners have staged protests today, cutting the Cairo-Alexandria highroad, setting car tires on fire, demanding an investigation into the prison massacre which took place on Wednesday.

Talking of “reform and the restructuring” of the interior ministry:
Ahmad Abdel Basset, the Daqahliya Security Director who commanded the crackdown, murder and torture of the protesters in the province during the uprising, has now been transferred to lead the Security Directorate in Alexandria.

In Beheira, prisoners rioted in Al-Ab’adiya as soon as they received news that Police Colonel Sami Zeitun, the Criminal Investigations Liaison Officer in prison and who is involved in torture, was returned to service in the prison once more. The police responded to the riot with live ammunition, killing three inmates according to the Interior Ministry’s statement. The prisoners however say at least 10 were killed.
