On Thursday, four independent editors were sentenced to one year in prison and LE20,000 fine, for “insulting President Mubarak and spreading false rumors about his fucking Majesty’s health”.

Judge Murad’s request to block websites rejected

The bloggers and rights activists scored a new victory. Judge Murad’s case to block 51 blogs and website, including mine, has has been thrown away. The Prosecutor’s interrogation of Blogger Amr Gharbeia has also been suspended.

Electronic Press Freedom in Egypt

A conference in defense of Electronic Press Freedom in Egypt is to be held at the Press Syndicate, Wednesday 20 June.

Speakers will include bloggers Alaa Seif, Nora Younis, Khadiga Malek and Abdel Moneim Mahmoud. The conference will start 7:30pm, following a half-hour sit-in in front of the syndicate to demand the release of detained journalists and denounce Mubarak’s regime’s crackdown on bloggers.
