Army, police crack down on Tahrir sit-in
On the first day of Ramadan, the army and police are now cracking down on the Tahrir sit-in, randomly arresting activists and members of families of the martyrs, tearing down the tents, firing live ammunition into the air.
UPDATE: In the video below, the Muslim Brotherhood declare their support for the police and army’s move against protesters in Tahrir. What a disgrace!

UPDATE: Check out this set of pix by Nora Shalaby. Interesting to see a new breed of thugs, in plainclothes but wearing official army and police helmets with bullet proof vests.
UPDATE: Also of course, Brigadier General Mamdouh Abbas of the military police was also there. Whenever this guy appears, troubles always follow.
Counterrevolution: Islamists and the Military Junta
As revolutionaries flock to Tahrir Square, the Muslim Brotherhood continue to refuse taking part in protests today, while the Gamaa Islamiya and the salafis mobilized a protest in el-Fath mosque in Ramses Square, denouncing the “secularists, Marxists and foreign agents” in Tahrir.
Also, few hundreds of pro-Mubarak supporters have also gathered in Roxy Square in Heliopolis, to express support for the ruling military junta and the police, and to denounce the protests in Tahrir.
