Kefaya detainees to be released!

Posted on 16/03/200729/03/2015 By 3arabawy

I’ve just received information that the Galaa Prosecutor’s office has ordered the release of the 21 Kefaya detainees.
I’m trying to get more details now… I’ll update the posting soon..

UPDATE: Yes! It’s confirmed! The boys will be released and no Tora Prison for them this time.
Leftist lawyer Ahmad Seif told me he was still not sure which police station the detainees will be taken to in order to process their release, but we expect it may be El-Dhaher Police Station again.
The five charges filed by the police against the activists, according to Seif, were:
1-Taking part in an illegal assembly of more than five persons
2-Spreading subversive ideas, aiming at disturbing public order and peace
3-Possessing subversive literature, that agitates for disturbing public order (Ahmad Seif said the SS police however did not present to the prosecution this “literature.”)
4-Assaulting Public officials (i.e. police officers) physically and verbally
5-Disrupting public traffic and means of transportation

Video: Sharqawi and Sha’er released 20 July 2006

As Kefaya embraces a fresh wave of detentions, I thought of starting to experiment with YouTube, by uploading a short video I had taken with my mobile phone camera, on the night bloggers Sharqawi and Sha’er were released from detention last summer.

The video clip was shot in downtown, after we took the two released detainees (still dressed in their white prison uniforms) from Cairo’s Security Directorate to El-Manzar el-Gameel coffeeshop in Bab el-Louq.

You can read more about this day here. Let’s hope the current Kefaya detainees get released soon, and not go through what our two friends suffered last year.

Kefaya detainees interrogated by Galaa Prosecutor; SS threatens more arrests

Posted on 16/03/200723/12/2020 By 3arabawy

21 Kefaya detainees are currently undergoing interrogation by the Galaa Prosecutor’s Office. Initially, the lawyers were not allowed access, but they are now attending the interrogations with our friends.

No lawyers are answering their mobile phones at the moment, coz they are inside. We are still trying to confirm what charges are being levelled against the activists. There are unconfirmed reports that the charges include:

1-Planning an unlicensed demonstration.
2-Disturbing public security.
3-Agitating against the new constitutional amendments.
4-Planning more demos in the future (wow! The ticking bomb scenario is applied to organizing demonstrations now!?).

The activists present at the moment in front of the Galaa Prosecution Office are not optimistic, and expect the prosecutor to order a (renewable) 15-day detention period.

More worryingly, activist sources citing lawyers who managed to have a look at the State Security police report filed to the prosecution say that SS have drawn up a list of activists they’ve been monitoring and are threatening to detain if they show up in future demos, including: George Ishaq, Hani Anan, Alaa Seif, Abdel Halim Qandeel, Muhammad el-Sharqawi, Abeer el-Askary, Rasha Azzab, Kamal Khalil, Kamal Abu Eita, and others including at least one who’s been arrested already: Khaled Abdel Hamid.

UPDATE: Photographer Amr Abdallah took some photos of the clashes between Kefaya anti-Mubarak demonstrators and the plainclothes police thugs.
