El-Burullus testimony

Posted on 21/06/200807/02/2021 By 3arabawy

Muhammad el-Nahass, left-wing muralist and community activist in El-Burullus:

In the Friday prayers following the uprising, the salafis came out strongly against the intifada. The preachers in their mosques, and we have many, said strikes and demonstrations against the ruler were haram. The people (worshipers) did not stay silent. They yelled back at the preachers, and at least in one occasion they assaulted a sheikh in a mosque.

In other news related El-Burullus, the last four detainees from the town in the pigs’ custody have been finally released. Mabrouk. Let’s not forget our brothers in Mahalla however.

Mahalla testimony

Testimony from a Mahalla labor organizer involved in the 6 April uprising…

The torture faced by the citizens in the police stations and State Security buildings was much worse than what the activists had to deal with. The police (officers) were insane… They were shocked they had lost control in some areas of the town… They wanted to punish everyone and prove they were still in control… In Mahalla’s 2nd Police Station, for example, officer Muhammad Maissara brought in the detainees, made them lie on the floor, whipped them, and then brought the Central Security Forces conscripts to run on top of them as if they (the detainees) were carpets on the floor!

Mahalla Updates

The Prosecutor has ordered today 43 from the Mahalla April 6 detainees, who have been classified as “criminal” (not political) prisoners, to be referred to court. Six more names will be tried in absentia, since they are on the run.

This means that the government has decided to use those Mahalla citizens as the scapegoat for the uprising.
