An end of an era

The power and water cuts are turning into a serious national crisis.

As his reign about to end, we are literally witnessing the collapse of Egypt’s infrastructure, and together with it, Mubarak’s legacy.

Power blues: Mubarak’s failed state

I was at a dental clinic in Nasr City today, when power went out while the doctor was in the middle of operating on my teeth. The guy had to stop and watch helplessly, as I kept spitting blood everywhere.

This summer has been plagued by power cuts all across the country for long hours, instigating protests in some provinces and built up anger in others.

This is coupled with water cuts, where neighborhoods in every single province go without water for hours, and sometimes days.

It is, as one friend described it, the end of the Egyptian civilization as we know it. Mubarak’s Egypt is by all accounts a failed state.
