Stand with jailed activists who fought for Egyptian workers’ rights

Ten years after the Egyptian revolution shook the world, a vicious military regime has detained tens of thousands without trial in dire conditions. This briefing for trade union activists highlights the cases of six socialist activists who are currently detained on spurious charges. They include journalists, a public transport worker, lawyers and a human rights researcher.

Part of an online talk I gave few months ago, organized by Marx21, on lessons from the first wave of Arab revolutions. I discussed five points:
– Revolution is a process.
– You cannot take over the state institutions. You have to smash them.
– The need for a revolutionary organization.
– The question of Islamism.
– The street, ballot box, and the need to confront ultra-leftism.
