The initial slander case against Kassem was brought on Sunday by Kamal Abu Eita, a former government minister and member of a committee tasked with recommending pardons.
Kassem initially refused cash bail, indicating in Twitter and Facebook posts on Sunday he felt the case was political.
“I am more honourable than Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and all his men and his regime,” he said.
Amin said Kassem’s lawyers had submitted a request for bail in a different form, but were surprised by a second case lodged against him alleging verbal assault of public employees while detained, which he described as fabricated, and the referral of both cases to trial.

Amr Hamzawy continues to reiterate his denunciation of any calls for the overthrowing of Mubarak’s army generals, SCAF.

Same goes for Sawiris and Saad Eddin Ibrahim. Almost all liberal politicians in bed with the military junta.

There needs to be an article written on this. How Western liberals projected their own harmful (politically) wishes on Arab political conduct in recent months. They promoted the notion that Arab people were inspired by Gene Sharp or Martin Luther King and that they so strictly adhered to non-violence. So untrue. Comrade Hossam wrote on Egyptian case, how the revolt in Suez for example was an armed insurrection. People in Tahrir square are still calling for execution of Mubarak and his cronies. Look around the Arab world: where are the non-violent protests? Some protests are non-violent–like in Yemen–but other elements of the opposition in Yemen have (and use) artillery pieces. Arab peoples have decided to try to overthrow their governments, by all means necessary. The notion that there is a firm belief in non-violence is folly, and I am not apologizing about it, because they believe that against the violence of Arab regimes, and Israel and its sponsors, violence against enemies can’t be ruled out. And notice that when Arabs use violence against regimes that US dislike (as in Libya), the US is impressed and is willing to lend a hand of violence. But when Hizbullah in May 6, 2008, revolted against a conspiracy by pro-Saudi March 14, the US screamed for months about the inappropriateness of violence in opposition. Of course, the US is only fooling those who don’t follow the news–i.e. Americans.

I recall it was in 2002, when I worked for the Cairo Times, at the same time when Jimmi had started already to create some political buzz with his repeated public appearances with daddy at NDP and govt events. Saad was just fresh out of jail. Issandr went to interview him in his home, and when he came back to the office, he told me in shock that following the interview, he was chatting with Saad and the latter told him he would not mind seeing Gamal Mubarak as a successor to his dad and that the young Mubarak is someone he (Saad) can work with.

This was not part of the interview published then. And in all cases the Mubaraks were still a taboo then for both the private and state media. So that chat wasn’t published.

To cut a long story short, Saad Eddin Ibrahim, even at the height of his so called “conflict with the regime” is an opportunist, and has always been an opportunist, unrepentant normalizer with Israel, and an American lackey who embraced wholeheartedly the Bush doctrine. His latest public move to declare his support for Gamal Mubarak’s nomination should not come as a surprise.
