Hosni ‘re-elected’ party chief

Posted on 04/11/200705/02/2021 By 3arabawy

As expected, at the NDP’s annual carnival of hypocrisy:

Hosni Mubarak has been re-elected leader of Egypt’s ruling party after a vote by members at the start of a party conference.
Members of the National Democratic Party (NDP) voted on Saturday by a margin of 5,248 to 9 to keep the Egyptian president as head of the party for another five years, state news agency MENA said.
It was the first time since Mubarak was chosen to head the party in 1981 that the NDP leadership has been decided by a secret ballot.
In previous party conferences, members simply pledged an oath of allegiance to Mubarak.
Grooming successor
Mubarak is believed to be preparing his son Gamal, now a senior party official, to be his eventual successor.

Hosni, you the son of Arabism. O brother, you are so great.. May he, who thought one day of making you grieve, have his hands cut.. He, who does not follow you, shouldn’t live.. He, who does not listen to you, shouldn’t live.

This is a translation of the “poem” recited Wednesday by Ibrahim el-Azhari, the General Secretary of the govt-controlled Egyptian Federation of Trade Unions during the end of the celebrations of the October War anniversary in the Nile Delta province of Qalyoubiya, sponsored by the (also govt-controlled) Young Workers’ Federation.

Ok, I can’t resist this. I gotta translate more of Al-Azhari’s juicy quotes:

“Mubarak, may God make him alive longer, is the peasant, the worker, the soldier.. President Mubarak feels for all the society’s classes and represents them,” he said adding that there was nothing better than poetry to counter the president’s critics.
Moreover, Al-Azhari said that the Young Workers Federation has collected President Mubarak’s speeches in a two-volume encyclopedia, titled “Mubarak’s Encyclopedia of Labor,” clarifying that the US Library of Congress already ordered it and the encyclopedia is in circulation.

Mubarak’s nuclear program

The regime has shown over and over and over and over again that it cannot handle infrastructure projects, housing, sewage, water, trains, buses, roads, and now they are going nuclear?! If you cannot take care of your trains, how will you take care of the nuclear reactors?!!

And what a cheap move to appease the national sentiments of the public. And I guess it worked for the confused nationalist opposition, including Hamdeen Sabbahi (see video below) of the Nasserist Karama, who declared support for the move.

I totally oppose this move. I do not trust the regime with one gram of uranium. Power could be generated by dzillion other safer ways than nuclear energy.

Down with Mubarak!
