President Hosni Mubarak and his ruling National Democratic Party have used the Political Parties Law to maintain a virtual monopoly over political power in Egypt by denying opponents the right to form political parties, Human Rights Watch said in a briefing paper released today.

Demonstrators chant against Mubarak in downtown
A person called me from downtown saying a group of activists are right now demonstrating in front of Al-Ghad Party HQ in Talaat Harb Street.
I could hear on the phone the demonstrators in the background chanting “Down with Mubarak,” and calling for the release of Dr. Ayman Nour.
The building is surrounded by security forces, the caller told me, who are dispersing any people passing by the demo or curious enough to approach the protest.
