Gaza takeover a coup, says Hosni

Posted on 24/06/200704/02/2021 By 3arabawy

Look who’s talking about legitimacy?!

The takeover of Gaza by Hamas was a “coup against legitimacy” according to the president of Egypt.
The comments came on Saturday, two days before Hosni Mubarak hosts a regional summit that is seen as an attempt to isolate the group.
Pledging his support for Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president and Fatah leader, Mubarak told senior members of his National Democratic Party: “We follow closely the consequences of the coup against the Palestinian legitimacy [in Gaza] and the damage that it has caused to the Palestinian people.
“We regret shedding Palestinian blood by Palestinian hands in clashes that crossed all the red lines.”

A visit to Fatah’s torture chamber زيارة لسلخانات خونة فتح

These are the ones whom Bush and the Western press describe as moderates:

The headquarters of the Fatah-controlled security force in Gaza have been open to the public since last Thursday. Every day is open house now.
For years the complex was a symbol of the horror disseminated by the security forces that reported directly to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. This is where Hamas men were taken after Fatah had arrested them. Some of those lucky enough to be eventually released reported that they had been tortured. Others disappeared forever.

Hamas’ victory in Gaza is a blow to Bush’s plans

Via Socialist Worker:

The stunning military victory by the Palestinian Hamas movement over the rival Fatah organization in the Gaza Strip last week was a strike against imperialism in the Middle East.
The US and its allies have described the Islamist group Hamas’s driving out of Fatah from Gaza as a “military coup” aimed at creating a “mini Taliban state”.
It is nothing of the sort. Hamas is the democratically elected Palestinian government. Its victory last week stopped an attempted military takeover sponsored by the US and its Israeli and Egyptian allies.
George Bush rushed to embrace the “Fatah moderates” in “the battle with extremism”.
Yet it is Bush who has worked hardest to strip Fatah of any credibility among the Palestinians by failing to deliver even the smallest concession in return for its recognition of Israel.
The showdown came last week after the attempted assassination of Hamas prime minister Ismail Hanaiya.
Angry Hamas fighters moved to crush what they considered to be the beginning of an Egyptian-inspired coup. Abandoned by its supporters, Fatah crumbled.
Hundreds of its fighters surrendered or walked away from the battle. Others fled across the border into Egypt.
