South African dockers refuse to offload Israeli ship

Posted on 03/02/200903/01/2021 By 3arabawy

Fantastic solidarity from South Africa’s workers:

In a historic development for South Africa, South African dock workers have announced their determination not to offload a ship from Israel that is scheduled to dock in Durban on Sunday, 8 February 2009. This follows the decision by Cosatu to strengthen the campaign in South Africa for boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Apartheid Israel.
The pledge by Satawu (South African Transport and Allied Workers Union) members in Durban reflects the commitment by South African workers to refuse to support oppression and exploitation across the globe. Last year, Durban dock workers refused to offload a shipment of arms that had arrived from China and was destined for Zimbabwe. Now, says Satawu’s General Secretary Randall Howard, the union’s members are committing themselves not to handle Israeli goods.

What sovereignty?!

While the regime keeps on whipping up anti-Palestinian hysteria, mixed with overdose of flag waving and chauvinism about “our sovereignty under threat”, supported by a group of patriotic morons in the press outlets and the blogosphere… Mubarak and the flag-wavers are still too happy to sit silently watching “our sovereignty” violated by two Israeli air fighters this morning flying over Sinai’s town of Sheikh Zuwayed, located 15kms from the borders…., and watching the US Navy conducting search operations in Egyptian territorial water.

BBC HQ occupied in Scotland

BBC occupation 25.01.2009

Via Lenin’s Tomb:

Over 100 supporters of Scottish Stop the War Coalition and Palestinian groups have occupied the BBC headquarters in Glasgow. They say they will not end their occupation until the BBC has reversed its decision not to broadcast an emergency aid appeal for Gaza. The protesters are demanding to meet with a senior representative of the BBC.

And as for Mark Thompson, the BBC’s director general who refused to broadcast the appeal, it turns out he “is actually a deeply religious man. He’s a Catholic, but his wife is Jewish, and he has a far greater regard for the Israeli cause than some of his predecessors.”
