Helwan workers in solidarity with Palestine

Posted on 15/01/200910/01/2021 By 3arabawy

I received the following message from Mostafa Nayed, one of the leading Helwan steel mills workers:

Workers from the Egyptian Iron and Steel Company in Helwan addressed a note to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Company asking to donate part of their pay to the people of Gaza. The donation is to mark workers’ support of the Palestinian people’s struggle against the Zionist enemy. Accordingly, the Company union addressed a note to the CEO asking to deduct a day from the workers’ pay to be donated to the Palestinian people. The company CEO agreed to deduct one day pay from the fixed January wage of all workers at the Egyptian Iron and Steel Company in Helwan.
It is also worth noting that workers at the Egyptian Iron and Steel Company in Helwan have donated one day from their fixed wage during the month of October 2000 in support of the second Palestinian Intifada. The donations were delivered to various Palestinian aid institutions. They have also stood against the visit of the President of Israel’s to the Iron and Steel Company in 1980.
We call upon and invite all workers in Egypt to donate to the Palestinian people resisting occupation in Gaza. We also call on the Egyptian people to support the people of Palestine by giving donations and boycotting Israeli goods, which facilitate the buying of arms used in the killing of the elderly, women and children of Gaza and the appalling house demolitions.

Bolivia breaks Israel ties

Posted on 14/01/200910/02/2021 By 3arabawy

Something Mubarak doesn’t have the courage to do:

President Evo Morales announced Wednesday he was breaking relations with Israel over its invasion of the Gaza Strip and said he will ask the International Criminal Court to bring genocide charges against top Israeli officials.
Morales’ ally Hugo Chavez of Venezuela broke ties with Israel last week.
Morales told the country’s diplomatic corps that the Israeli attack “seriously threatened world peace” and he called for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his Cabinet to face criminal charges.
Morales chided the United Nations’ “Insecurity Council” for its “lukewarm” response to the crisis and said the U.N. General Assembly should condemn the invasion.
He also said Israeli President Shimon Peres should be stripped of his Nobel Peace Prize for failing to stop the invasion.

‘The government is treating us in the same way as Israel is treating the Palestinians!’

From Egypt and Beyond…

…there is one phrase that I’ve kept hearing again and again: “The government is treating us in the same way as Israel is treating the Palestinians!”
The idea here is that people around the region identify and sympathize with the Palestinians not simply because they share a common culture or language (or for that matter an irrational hatred of Jews, unrelated to the Zionist colonization of Arab land, as some would have it), but also because they share a common experience of oppression and dispossession.
