Peasants protest land evictions

Around 200 peasants demonstrated yesterday in the village of Dekernes in the Nile Delta province of Daqahliya, protesting their eviction from their lands in favor of the descendants of the Badrawi feudalist family.

I received a message in the morning saying Labor Party activists Magdi Hussein, Akram el-Irani, and a third whose first name is Muhammad were detained by the police on their way to Dekernes to express solidarity with the evicted peasants.

Kefaya to demonstrate against Mubarak’s constitutional amendments

Kefaya has called for a demonstration on 15 March, in Tahrir Square, 5pm, to denounce Mubarak’s proposed constitutional amendments that aim to maintain the current dictatorship and pave way for a royal-styled presidential succession.

Fishermen demonstrate in front of parliament

100 fishermen from Kafr el-Sheikh governorate, far north of the Nile Delta, assembled in front of the People’s Assembly yesterday in downtown Cairo to protest the provincial authorities attempts to strip them from their lands, Al-Masry Al-Youm reports.
