Via Egypt Independent: Newspaper distributors at Raml Station Square in Alexandria went on strike yesterday and refrained from receiving newspapers and distributing them in protest at the decision to remove their kiosks from the square for the purpose of beautifying it.
Workers at the American University in Cairo went on strike this week over contracts and work conditions. The protests will resume on 19 April if the administration do not respond to their demands, as stated by the workers’ independent syndicate.
It’s unlikely to see Mahalla now rising against Sisi, but such industrial actions are slowly laying the seeds of what could be a full-fledged challenge to the ruling junta in the coming years. UPDATE: The strike has been suspended on Saturday.
