Confrontations continued on Saturday with the Interior Ministry’s Central Security Forces in Muhammad Mahmoud, Mansour and Fahmy Streets.

Protests and similar clashes took place in Suez and Daqahliya.

More protests are planned today Sunday.

PM Essam Sharaf had to flee Suez, in the protection of the military police, after workers and relatives of martyrs received him with protests and rocks.

Thousands have started flocking to Tahrir since the morning, as anti-government protests continue in Cairo, Suez and elsewhere.

In Alexandria, mass protests are taking place now in front of the Security Directorate, denouncing the interior ministry, calling for the prosecution of police torturers and demanding impeaching Khaled Gharraba and minister Mansour el-Essawi. Striking workers from several companies have joined the protests.

The protesters in Alexandria have taken down the interior ministry’s flag from the poll in front of the Security Directorate.

Oh, and the call for a million-man protest in Heliopolis to denounce Tahrir and express support to SCAF managed to draw roughly 14 protesters! :)

All are singing praise of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (read: Mubarak’s army generals), describing the sit-ins and protests as “chaos”, “conspiracy from abroad”, “work of thugs”, “counterrevolution”, bla bla bla .. in a language that is no different from what State Security Police used to do during the uprising, and what the military continues to do till today.

No wonder the shabab in Tahrir kicked out Sheikh Safwat Hegazi (the Islamist preacher with MB roots who supported the uprising strongly but was more than happy to become a SCAF lackey later) when he showed up at the square two nights ago, accusing him of opportunism and being an agent of SCAF.

Moreover, Sawasiya, a “human rights center” which was founded by the Muslim Brothers and has been headed by the MB senior lawyer, Abdel Moneim Abdel Maqsoud, has called for a counter-Tahrir protest and march in Heliopolis today:

A call for a parallel demonstration in Cairo’s Roxy Square to that in Tahrir Square on Friday has come out on Facebook. The event is planned to march to the headquarters of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) against the continued sit-in in Tahrir.
A statement released by the Sawasiya Legal Center, which has initiated the call, declares that the sit-in in Tahrir Square “imposes the demands of a minor category that does not represent the majority of the Egyptian people.” The statement goes on to denounce the “shameless attempts that seek to create division between the people and their military forces.”

Shame on them. I will not sing this stupid hymn of “national unity.” It’s time to make a clear stand, distinguish who’s for the revolution and who has decided to side with the counterrevolution. And the Islamist forces leaders are clearly on the side of the counterrevolutionary generals. I hope the Islamist youth, those who defied their leaders’ orders and took part in the uprising, will wake up and know what sort of opportunists run their organizations.

Protests in Suez continue as of time of writing. While families and the martyrs and city residents continue their protests near the Suez Canal Authority threatening to shut it down, others took to the Suez – Ain Sokhna highway, blocking it for nine hours, while chanting “We either get their (martyrs’) rights, or we die here today.”

The army cracked down, opening the highway by force, arresting 25 protesters before they were reportedly released roughly an hour ago. Upon hearing this news, protesters in Alexandria blocked the Corniche road. And as for the army, it of course denied the use of violence in suspending the protests.
