Egypt’s military junta supports Syrian dictator

Posted on 29/04/201124/02/2021 By 3arabawy

Egypt’s foreign policy vis a vis Syria is hardly the actions of a revolutionary Egypt. It’s Tantawi’s Egypt. It’s Egypt which continues to be under the control of the Mubarak’s army generals, despite an ongoing revolt.

The first foreign visit of General Mahmoud Murad Mowafi, the new director of Egypt’s Mukhabarat, was to Syria where he conferred with Bashar, amid the latter’s crackdown on pro-democracy protests. And now Al-Masry Al-Youm reports:

Egypt is backing Syrian diplomatic efforts to block a Western-supported UN resolution condemning Damascus’s bloody crackdown on pro-democracy protesters, a human rights advocate said on Thursday.
“Egypt has introduced amendments to a proposed UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution, according to which the council should not condemn the bloody governmental crackdown on peaceful protesters in Syria,” said Radwan Ziadeh, a Syrian human rights activist, via telephone from Geneva.

What a disgrace! My full solidarity goes to the Syrian people in their current revolt.

#PostJan25 changing times

أمي:رايح فين يبني؟ أنا:رايح الجامعة يا ماما و بعدين رايح مظاهرة. أمي:طيب ما تتأخرش علشان نتفرج علي أيمن نور بليل علي أون تيفي#PostJan25 #fb

My friend Muhammad tweeting about a conversation between him and his mother:
My Mom: Where are you going son?
Me: I’m going to university, then heading to a protest.
My Mom: Ok, don’t be late, Dr. Ayman Nour will be on ONTV tonight.

Compare this conversation to pre-25 Jan times. One had to lie to his parents about going to protests. Parents wouldn’t really care that much whether some “politician” showed up on TV speaking or not. And probably mothers would urge their children to come back home on time to catch a soap opera on TV with the rest of family members.

Everyone is “political” these days. That’s what revolution does to people.

Transport strike leader to go on trial!

Public Transport Workers on Strike إضراب عمال النقل العام

Ali Fetouh, a leading independent trade unionist at the Cairo Public Transport Authority, whose role was central to their 2009 and February 2011 strikes, will show up on 7 May at a penal court at the State Council, accused of “agitating for strikes and publicly talking about the problems of workers in the media.”

And they tell you “Mission Accomplished” and Egypt’s workers are free now? Tell that to Ali Fetouh!
