I watched an interesting documentary yesterday, in the photojournalism class I’m auditing, about the works of activist photographer Sebastião Salgado.
Some quotes by Salgado:
“The picture is not made by the photographer, the picture is more good or less good in function of the relationship that you have with the people you photograph.”
“You photograph with all your ideology.”
Labor strikes, factory occupations, student protests, street clashes, sit-ins, anti-regime cartoons, activist animations–these all need to be collected, archived, and uploaded to the net. We cannot just be content with spreading the “word,” we have also to spread the “image”.
