Workers for Change and the Tagammu Party are holding a public event, to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the heroic 1989 Helwan Steel Mills occupation, which was crushed by the police using live ammunition, resulting in the killing of one worker.
The event will take place on 20 August, 5:30pm, at the Tagammu office in Helwan, located at 24 Ragheb Street.
The Egyptian Workers and Trade Unions Watch has issued its report on the industrial action during the first two weeks of the current month of August.
The following statement has been distributed few hours ago by the Textile Workers’ League activists inside Ghazl el-Mahalla factories, during the (Saturday) third night shift. The statement, written in a satirical form, denounces corruption and the deterioration of medical services in the company’s hospital, and was signed by “The Mahalla Textile Slaughterhouse Workers’ League”.
Last Wednesday the League also distributed a statement, regarding the workers’ annual profit shares.
