Ghazl el-Mahalla workers demonstrate against management

Demonstrations broke out today inside the Ghazl el-Mahalla Company, as workers protested today against the chairman of the state-owned company Mahmoud el-Gebally, amid a propaganda campaign by the managers of the company sectors to try to persuade the workers not to pursue his overthrow at the coming General Assembly, according to an activist source.

Workers from the 1st and the 2nd shift took part in the protest which started around 3:30pm and lasted for half an hour. The number of participants varied in reports from 1500 to 3000.

Hundreds of telephone manufacturing workers stage sit in south of Cairo

Around 520 workers are on a sit-in since Monday evening at the Telephones Equipments Company (located in Ma’assara, south of Cairo), protesting the delay in their quarter-annual bonuses (which equal 90 work days).
The company’s labor force amounts to 1400 workers. The above mentioned 520 have been working in the company before 2001, the year it was privatized. The rest of the labor force (hired after privatization) are on temporary arrangements.

According to the message I received below (in Arabic) there are attempts by the temporary workers, who were already involved in previous industrial actions to demand job contracts, to join the ongoing protest and unite the ranks.

أعلن 520 عامل في شركة المعدات التليفونية بالمعصرة جنوب القاهرة الاعتصام بالشركة بعد ساعات العمل منذ يوم أمس الاثنين احتجاجا على عدم صرف الحافز ربع السنوي وقيمته 90 يوم
الشركة تضم 1400 عامل منهم 520 قدامى أي من مرحلة ما قبل خصخصة الشركة في 2001
والباقي يعملون بعقود مؤقتة الاعتصام مستمر والعمال المؤقتين يحاولون الانضمام إليه لتوحيد عمال الشركة
يذكر أن العمال المؤقتين بالشركة كانوا قد قاموا بسلسلة من الاحتجاجات طوال العام الماضي من أجل تثبيتهم
