3000 workers strike in Mahalla; threaten escalation in three weeks

Around three thousand workers went on strike today in Ghazl el-Mahalla for 32 minutes, reports activist Kareem el-Beheiry.

The strikers warned the management after they went back to work that this was just the beginning, and threatened wider action on 21 July, if their demands are not met.

Visual images can often be far more powerful than words. Back in late 1800s, when New York City’s infamous Boss Tweed was asked why he had offered cartoonist Thomas Nast $500,000 to stop drawing caricatures of him and his cronies, Tweed replied: “I don’t care so much what the papers write about me–my constituents can’t read; but they can understand pictures.”
The same is true today. Movies and mass media most impact us in the areas we know the least about.

1500 workers from Ta’awon Ghazl el-Mahalla, are threatening to strike if they don’t receive the same bonuses as their colleagues did in the mother company Ghazl el-Mahalla.
