The mother of one of the protesters detained by the army giving her testimony at the Press Syndicate. The army, day by day, is proving there is no difference between them and State Security Police.

I can’t understand this crazy brutality of the army.
It is as if there are people among them who are taking revenge on ordinary people for succeeding with the revolution. They can’t turn back the clock but they seem to believe that there is no authority to stop them and so they can torment people just for fun.
It is a kind of mental illness when people torment others like this – and then tell them they deserve it.
No one can possibly ‘deserve’ this kind of treatment. This is pure sadism. The people doing this are very sick. Perhaps this sickness is a symptom of the abuse that has been commonplace under a dictatorship.
I feel really sad that people are having to deal with such horrific realities and I hope for you all that it will stop.
In the meantime I am certainly letting all my friends who have visited and loved the Egyptian Museum know that Egyptian people are now being tortured in it.
Our police are not beyond criticism, but there are methods of policing a democracy, and they certainly do not look like this.
I very much hope different ways of dealing with the public will soon be learned and that things continue to improve for you despite this horrible backlash.
