El-Adly Videogate: Correction and Updates

Posted on 08/01/200725/03/2015 By 3arabawy

I’ve just spoken now with Nasser Amin, Emad Kabeer’s lawyer, and I need to correct a previously posted information, as well as provide a quick update…

The trial of the Bulaq al-Daqrour torturers is NOT starting tomorrow as I posted before. Emad will show up tomorrow in court with his lawyer, but for another case. A judge will look into the charges leveled by the Bulaq police agents at Emad for “resisting authorities and assaulting a police officer.” Lawyer Nasser Amin assured me Emad will be acquitted.

Meanwhile, Police Captain Islam Nabih and Corporal Reda Fathi, who tortured and sexually abused Emad, are detained in one of the Central Security Forces camp, Nasser added. Their trial will not start at anytime before March, he said.

On another front, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported today that General Habib el-Adly, the Interior Minister “gave his instructions” to police officials in Cairo and the provinces to try to identify the woman torture victim who appeared in the police brutality video recently leaked by Wael Abbas.

Solidarity campaign with police torture victim’s family

Posted on 08/01/200716/01/2021 By 3arabawy

I received a statement from the Association for Human Rights Legal Aid (AHRLA), saying they were launching a campaign against State Security Captain Ashraf Mustafa Hussein Safwat, who electrocuted to death in 2003 citizen Muhammad Abdel Kader, a resident in Hadayeq el-Qobba neighborhood in Cairo.

The officer detained 31-year-old Muhammad and his brother Sameh, 27, on 16 September 2003, with no court orders or charges. Five days later, their family was phoned and requested to come and receive Muhammad’s dead body which carried torture marks.

Though the prosecutor took a decision to investigate the officer after three years of the incident, the family was forced to drop the case in court, after the officer blackmailed them using Sameh, who’s still in detention without trial, as a bargaining chip.
