When will they protest against the human right abuses and by the obvious content of the Arab states of Israel’s attack on Hamas? I think the self-righteous nature of Sussex students is becoming intolerable as they pick and choose their causes so selectively that they can’t pretend anymore to be genuinely concerned with human rights abuses. When will they realise that the Arabs and Israeli’s got into all this trouble due to the Europeans and what they need is regional support, not more interference by Europeans who stand up for them during their studies and forget about them as soon as their often corporate careers take off.
to nicole. i dont understand what you mean, thats what they are protesting against. i know people on this and other university occupations that are taking place at the moment (not just europeans either, there are of course many arabs involved). i think the majority of student activists are genuinely concerned about the situation and many other instances of human rights abuses. to assume that they are interfering for their own ends or to advance along a given career is a gross misrepresentation of the people involved. yes some students wont continue their activism all their lives for a variety of reasons, but that doesnt mean they dont care or that its a phenomenon which is unique to students.
