everytime i hear something about “the turkish model” i go nuts. it’s just another capitalist state. the gap between the poorest and the wealthiest is probably even more than Egypt. democracy is something for the unconcious citizen here. when you have a word to say, you may end up in prison here as well. there’s more to say but the message to the egypians is not to idealize the system here, build a new one to make a model for a new world, for a whole new world.
I agree, the Turkish “model” is a dangerous allusion to a military dictatorship that has a parliamentary face. The Kemalist state even with its neoliberal Islamist (AKP) face, does not tolerate working class mobilizations and is fascistic about the rights and claims of non-Turkish populations. Kurdistan in many ways reflects the normalized violence of occupation in Palestine, than is obvious to most observers. Al Jazeera is being either naive or revealing its own class politics by uncritically representing the idea of Turkish “model.”
Please publicize this video which shows how the Turkish “model” works in occupied Kurdistan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foo6XOzC14E&feature=player_embedded
