Despite all my frustration that I’m away from Egypt and missed out on the strongest strike the country had in two decades… I’m for sure grateful I’m away from the intensive bullshit and govt propaganda, a.k.a. Ramadan soap-operas, on Mubarak’s State TV.
حظي إني أتفرج على تمثيلية يسرا. الحقيقة الشرطة في خدمة الشعب لدرجة أنه مش فاضل غير إن ضابط المباحث يخش يغطي المتهمين في التخشيية بالليل.

Like almost every year, soaps are portraying State Security and police officers as angels, well behaved, thinking of nothing except the well being of their prisoners 24/7, fighting corruption bravely, locking up even a son of minister!!!! LOL! A son of a minister gets imprisoned on criminal charges in Egypt!!? When did this ever happen!?
And what’s even better, lawyers in the soaps try to convince the detainees to “falsely accuse” the police officers of torture and mistreatment! LOL once again! I won’t be surprised if they also show those evil bloggers digitally fabricating torture videos and accusing those State Security Saints of brutality.
In todays episode, the two defendants, who according to the plot are guilty rapists, followed their lawyers’ advice and changed their statements in which they had earlier [nearly] admitted their guilts, and said that they were tortured, showing off their backs that bear the marks of each other fingernails, to the public attorney and, in an overly scandalous manner, to journalists in court!
The government is trying to brainwash people into indulging in the false relieving belief that police treats all criminals in the 5-star way, and that only really really bad and guilty criminals are likely to falsely claim that they were abused by the police.
It’s the same technique over and over. The first thing the police would leak to the news is that the allegedly tortured citizen was a rapist or child molester or mother-beater, hoping to induce public sympathy with the poor officer who couldn’t but beat the *criminal*.
And since this particular series is broadcast on Arab Satellite TV, it is obviously a well planned attempt to cleanse the rightfully tarnished Egyptian governments reputation, by means of misinformation. All fabricated in Safwat’s state studios of “ElReyada ElE’lameyya”.
